For only resistive faults, the CableSHARK’s RFL test will instruct the user how to attach the strap (see
Section 12.1.1.6) at the far end.
WARNING
Fault found between RING and GROUND.
Connect a good pair to Yellow and Blue.
Connect far end strap from wire connected to Red
to both ends of good pair.

At the conclusion of the RFL Isolation test, a WARNING box will appear indicating where the fault is (i.e. T-
R, R-G, T-G, not distance) and how to connect the strap (see Section 12.1.1.6) at the far end. Once the
strap is hooked up, the user can press the CONTINUE button to advance to the RFL SETUP menu.
NOTE: The user should locate a good pair before actually proceeding to the RFL SETUP menu.
12.1.1.6 Connecting the Strap
A strap is typically a wire that connects the ends of a good pair to a wire on the faulty pair. The strap should
be made of 18AWG (1.0 mm) and be very short because it will have a very low resistance and will not affect
the measurement. Alternatively, the same gauge of cable can be used but again must be very short as to not
adversely affect the measurement.
Here are the possible hook-ups that can be done, depending upon the fault (others can exist).
