12.1.1.5 Initial RFL Testing
From the Main Menu, pressing Function button F1 (CABLE TESTS) will bring the user to the CABLE TESTS
pop-up menu. Choosing RESISTIVE FAULT LOCATION (RFL) from the pop-up menu activates the RFL
test.
The CableSHARK will measure the combinations of TIP-RING, RING-GROUND, and TIP-GROUND using
the CableSHARK voltage and resistance tests to determine if RFL is possible on the faulty pair selected. If
the measured resistance is <10 Mohms, or the voltage is > 2 VDC or negative, there may be a fault on the
line.
Any fault that measures less than <3.3 Mohms must
be repaired.
If there is a voltage on the line, the RFL test will display the following message: “RFL isolation test is not
complete, live voltage detected.” At this point the user should verify that the station battery has been
disconnected on the pairs under test.
